Meet The Team: Julie Llewellyn

Today, we are excited to introduce Julie Llewellyn, our dedicated Office Manager at Morelli Consulting. Julie is a cornerstone of our daily operations, ensuring that behind the scenes everything runs smoothly. Her meticulous management of all aspects of our operations and unwavering support for the team enable us to focus on delivering exceptional service to our clients.

How did you come to join Morelli?

“Eight years ago, I connected with Shelley, the founder of Morelli Consulting, through a mutual friend. She mentioned that Shelley was looking for someone to assist with various business tasks for her sustainability consultancy and thought we’d get along well. After a coffee and chat, I began working for Shelley starting part-time with invoicing, admin and taking on a PA role.

Over time, I expanded my responsibilities as Morelli Consulting grew. When COVID-19 hit, despite missing face-to-face interactions, I continued to support Shelley remotely. The sustainability world didn’t stop; in fact, it gained more focus as people became more aware of their carbon footprints during lockdown, witnessing the positive impact on nature when it was left undisturbed and being reminded of the importance of looking after employees and others associated with business activities.

A few months after COVID pressures eased and we returned to the office, Melissa joined our small team. It marked the beginning of a period of growth for us.

Now, eight years later and with a much bigger team to support, I’m still here, proud to be part of this journey.”

Can you tell us about your role?

“‘Office mum’ could be another title. I love looking after everyone and am very approachable.

I often wear several hats throughout the day and there is no such thing as a ‘typical day’ for me.

I assist in managing the finance side of the business, HR, and oversee payroll. When new team members join, I handle their onboarding, ensuring they have everything they need to get started, from payroll setup to IT and desk arrangements. Many of the team are either based in, or regularly visit, our Chichester office so I make sure the office environment is welcoming and productive for us. I also organise our quarterly team days, ensuring activities are accessible to all, connected to our sustainability mission and that everyone has fun.

I set up new clients on our systems and assign team members to the relevant processes which helps them to plan their schedules to efficiently meet client goals.

Though I might not be discussing sustainability strategies directly with clients, my work ensures that Morelli Consulting runs smoothly and delivers the best service possible.”

Can you share more about your previous experience?

“I left school at 17 to start working for a large local company, focusing on shipping, exporting and importing. I climbed the ranks in a pharmaceutical company, eventually becoming a manager. I loved my job and had a fantastic boss who mentored me. When he retired, I took over his position.

After this role, I took a month-long trip to Thailand, which was a refreshing break. Upon returning, I joined a family-owned aftershave company to set up their export departments. My background in shipping made this a perfect fit, and I eventually became the operations manager, managing the buying of raw materials and production with contract fillers whilst gaining valuable experience in manufacturing.

When the company was sold, I took a career break to focus on my family. However, I missed working and started part-time with Shelley, which evolved into my current role at Morelli Consulting.”

How do you incorporate sustainability into your personal life?

“When I first joined Morelli Consulting, sustainability wasn’t a widely discussed topic. However, over the years, working closely with the team has greatly influenced my understanding and appreciation of its importance. I’ve realised, like everyone else, that sustainability is an inescapable and vital aspect of our world.

Initially, all the sustainability buzzwords Shelley used were unfamiliar to me but now they are second nature to everyone who joins us. I keep informed of the team’s projects and the wider developments in sustainability through our regular team meetings and by leading our project set-up processes.  My knowledge has grown significantly, and so has my passion for sustainability.

This influence has extended to my home life as well. My family is sustainability-conscious, focusing on recycling and minimising food waste. My kids laugh at me when I insist that as long as something in the fridge hasn’t gone fizzy or turned blue, it’s still good to eat.”
